Medicare Supplement premium went up? Your birthday is your window.
For the 60 days that start on your birthday, Kentucky lets you move to the same Medicare Supplement plan with a different insurance company, and the new company cannot ask health questions. I compare what your same plan costs with the companies I represent, before your window opens.
- You already have a Medicare SupplementThe rule is for changing companies, not for buying a Supplement the first time.
- You keep the same plan letterPlan G moves to Plan G. Plan N moves to Plan N.
- You apply in the 60 days starting on your birthdayCall a few weeks ahead so the comparison is ready when the window opens.

Starts on your birthday. Lasts 60 days.
What the rule does not do
- It does not let you change plan letters without health questions.
- It does not cover moving from a Medicare Advantage plan to a Supplement.
- It does not require you to switch. Keeping your current company is always an option.
One rule of thumb. Keep your current Supplement in place until the new policy is approved and active, so you are never without coverage.

Before you call
Will switching change my benefits?
No. The same plan letter has the same standardized benefits with any company. What can differ is the price, the company’s history of rate increases and its service.
Do I have to switch?
No. If your current company is still competitive, keeping it is a fine choice, and I will tell you so.
What if I want a different plan letter?
That falls outside the birthday rule, so the new company can usually ask health questions. We can still look, as long as you know the difference going in.
